Reducing mortality due to epidemic outbreak of swine fever

Aliba village has a total household of 262. Out of these, 176 household rear pigs. It is evident that majority of the household are engaged in pig rearing as part of their livelihood sustenance.

During the past few year recurrent occurrences of swine fewer diseases had resulted in high mortality of pigs resulting in great economic losses. In the year 2014 alone, 30 pigs died due to this disease. Due to the present climate change conditions, various disease outbreak takes place and if unattended there used to be high casualties in livestock sectors. In order to prevent these economic losses, a vaccination camp was held in the NICRA village. Altogether 165 pigs were vaccinated during Feb. 2015. After the vaccination only 3 pigs have died till date. Loss of livestock caused by such disease was reported to be negligible after the programme and farmers are demanding more of such programmes. A total of 119 farmers were benefited. Thus, vaccination has imparted protection to the pigs against swine fewer thus avoiding economic losses of the farmers.
